The Moulin du Val-Dieu: Abbey Beers and an Idyllic Setting in Aubel
A must-visit address on the Herve plateau, to enjoy without worrying about the way back
Just a stone’s throw from the Val-Dieu Abbey in Aubel, the Moulin du Val-Dieu combines a tavern-brewery with local, homely cooking in a setting steeped in history. CHAR-LI regularly drives its clients there, so they can make the most of the place and its beer menu without ever having to get back behind the wheel.
A place carried by two generations
The Moulin du Val-Dieu occupies what was originally the abbey’s mill. Today it’s run by Léon Stassen Père et Fils: a well-known face on the Herve plateau’s hospitality scene, with more than forty years of experience, supported by his younger son. After running the local bistro “Le Casse-Croûte de Val Dieu” together just nearby, the duo crossed the road to take over this institution on the abbey’s tourist site.

An abbey beer menu for every taste
It’s hard to resist the row of taps standing proudly on the counter. Val-Dieu beer comes in several distinct varieties — the Hop, the Blonde, the Triple, the Brune, and the Grand Cru — each with its own character, from the crisp hoppiness of the Hop to the fuller-bodied richness of the Grand Cru. There’s something here for lovers of light beers and those who prefer a more intense tasting experience alike.

An idyllic setting, designed with families in mind too
Between its shaded terraces and its adaptable spaces spread over two floors, the Moulin du Val-Dieu invites you to take your time. The highlight for families: a genuine outdoor playground, complete with slides and climbing structures, letting children burn off energy while parents relax and enjoy the setting and the local menu.

CHAR-LI takes you there, with no worries about the journey home
A Triple or a Grand Cru is best enjoyed when you don’t have to drive afterwards. That’s why CHAR-LI regularly arranges transport for its clients to the Moulin du Val-Dieu: a relaxed ride there, and above all, a worry-free journey home after the meal, with no driving concerns whatsoever.
