Volunteers from the Cœur Historique non-profit supporting a struggling SME in Liège free of charge

How did we define this persona?

This space is designed for the leaders of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) rooted in Liège province, in particular those going through a period of stagnation or economic uncertainty. Whether it’s organisations held back by operational bottlenecks, or isolated leaders looking for a neutral, caring perspective to catch their breath, we reach out to SMEs that want to stabilise and modernise but run into structural, technological or commercial difficulties.

What challenges and objectives are at stake?

As with every profile we support, the chaos an SME experiences takes its own particular shape: here, it often looks like administrative overload combined with economic uncertainty that wears leaders down day after day. A cost structure weighed down by unnecessary fixed charges, difficulty identifying or reaching the right clients, outdated IT processes slowing down everyday work, or obstacles to getting known and growing a customer base: these combined difficulties keep the organisation from catching its breath and finding stability again. Our objective is simple: work with the leader to pinpoint these friction points and help them, free of charge, bring order to this particular chaos.

What concrete actions have been put in place?

The Cœur Historique non-profit’s action for SMEs rests on two complementary, clearly distinct pillars. On one hand, skills-based volunteering: members of our network, themselves former business leaders who have been through difficult times, freely give their time and personal experience. Together with the leader, they carry out a first volunteer-led review — because we know from experience that the most useful conversations often happen in the very first days — then support them over a three-month period, going through fixed costs, IT processes and the difficulties encountered in growing the customer base. On the other hand, the non-profit’s own structural mission: making its network of volunteer partners and pooled resources available, connecting the SME with other members of the ecosystem and helping it put durable structures in place. This two-sided approach, entirely free and with nothing expected in return, provides both personalised human support and lasting structural help.

In short: what we offer, free of charge

Free from the very first conversation: A first volunteer-led review, with no commitment and nothing expected in return, to understand your situation as early as the first week.

Volunteer support over 3 months: Expert members of our network, themselves former business leaders, freely give their time to your SME, drawing on their own hands-on experience.

Networking and resources from the non-profit: Alongside this skills-based volunteering, the non-profit makes its partner network and pooled resources available to help you durably stabilise your business.
