1. Why a handyman service?
For someone in a precarious situation, a seemingly minor household breakdown — a lock that no longer closes, a water leak, a dangerous electrical socket — can quickly become a major safety issue, simply because there is no way to call a professional within a reasonable time.
Our handyman service is not intended to replace a qualified tradesperson for major or regulated work. It is a fast, solidarity-based response to small urgent repairs, preventing a situation from worsening while waiting for a heavier solution.
Common repairs we handle: simple locksmithing, small leaks, faulty sockets and switches, fixings, sticking doors and windows.
Work outside our scope: complex electrical or gas installations, structural works — for which we refer you to a licensed professional or an appropriate assistance scheme.
2. A safety issue, not just comfort
A door that no longer closes properly, an overheating socket, or a leak that encourages damp and mould: left unaddressed, these situations expose our beneficiaries to real risks for their safety and health, on top of permanently damaging their home.
This is especially true for people already supported through our Diogenes syndrome or family burnout services: quickly securing the home is an integral part of stabilising their overall situation.
3. Our approach in Liège
Our team of volunteer handymen intervenes upon request, usually within days depending on the urgency identified. Every intervention remains free for the beneficiary, and is rooted in local solidarity rather than commercial service.
